There’s nothing better than sitting down around a roaring fire pit in the backwoods while you wait for your hobo pie to cook in the flames!
Also known as the pudgy pie, mountain pie, or hobo sandwich, this is one of the simplest yet tastiest snacks you can cook around the campfire. Hobo pie recipes require just three ingredients, including bread, butter, and your favorite pie fillings and, of course, a trusty hobo pie maker (otherwise known as a pie iron!)

2 slices of white bread
1 can of fruit filling*
Start by getting your campfire roaring hot. When you have hot embers, start cooking!
Open your pie iron and spray both sides with a generous coating of cooking spray to keep your bed from sticking.
Generously butter the two slices of bread on both sides and place one piece into the pie iron.
Spread a thick layer of canned fruit filling over the first piece of bread in the pie iron, then place the second piece on top.
Close the pie iron and place it directly into the hot coals.
Turn the pie iron regularly to give the sandwich a chance to cook evenly in the fire pit.
If you prefer soft but cooked, remove the pie iron after 5 min. If you like it crispy, then wait 10 min before removing.
When cooked, carefully open the pie iron and remove your hobo pie!
